Great Call wanted to make a “Splash”

GreatCall’s new product launch for the Splash Urgent Response device was targeted to seniors 80+. John Walsh (of “America’s Most Wanted” fame) was the company spokesman. And major shareholder. The client was looking to break out of a crowded marketplace.

“Live fearlessly”

I was hired by DavisElen as freelance to pitch ideas for this project. I drove up to downtown LA everyday for two weeks. Took the elevator up to what felt like the top floor of the towering TWC building. Where I sat in a small conference room and stared out the window. It was a long, long way down.

And, lo, an idea was born.

That guy leaping with his arms out? That’s Jon Devore. The guy to his left, looking surprised? That’s me, Cameron Young, the guy who wrote the spot. The other guy in the vest? That’s Dave Mauzey, my partner on this project. We shut down 5 blocks of Wilshire Blvd. - on Palm Sunday - and held our breath as Jon leapt off the roof of a 37 story skyscraper. Seven times.
